I am so excited. If everything works out I will be going back for a full cosmetology lic. starting Feb. 15th. All of the nail schools are closing in MD so if I am going to continue to teach I have to become full cosmetology.

Cool! It's too bad that MD only requires 250 hours--I feel that there is just way too much to learn that that amount seem barely enough just to learn the chemistry!

gilligansroomie1...for just nails? If so don't do the books, you can use mine and save money! Pivot is salon fundamentals and I have all of it including teachers addition....lol. I am in for 11 months 1436.25 hours. I am finished 1/7/11 great anniversary gift!

Claudia, it is a lot of cramming the information. I always started with the hard and worked to the easy so they got the most important. All of my students have passed on the first time so it must be working

Nope- I am going for the whole thing- 1500 hours, and I am way excited! The school seems to be wonderful- I just cant wait. Thanks for the offer for the books- I have to buy the whole kit anyway- ($1,500.00) I sure hope it is nice quality so I can use it for a while afterwards.

I like them better then Milady's and mine is just on the nail side so it will not do you any good. That is a big mark up on the books though.

The school is $13,000 just itself- so $15,000 all together. Is that about the going rate in MD?

Here in Wyoming the full cosmetology course (includes basic nails & esthetician)is a year long (can't remember the hours) and it is only $10,000. The nail course is now 500 hours for $2,800. So, I guess I am pretty fortunate on that score. And these costs include all your books and student kits. But we can't get grants and student loans, because our schools will not deal with accreditation because of the paperwork involved.

The schools here that are not accredited charge cheaper. I just wont go to a school that is not. If it is an accredited school if you go to any college it is turned into college credits.

Oh and school is kicking my tail.....I am so not used to being up at 6:45 am and staying up. School is boring as well. So right now I am always tired....lol. They are doing nails right now so I am on what they call a tech sheet. Has like 12 things that I have to do and stretch out for 3 weeks. I am over 1/2 done and still have 2 weeks to go....opps....lol

Can you at least use that time to do creative examples on tips for your own library? That would at least keep you interested.

Okay, that's a little crazy! I can see only offering one system, but if a student wants to bring in another system to practice with--I don't see an issue with that. Especially if you are only practicing with it and not putting it on people! Are you allowed to practice anything in your 'down' time--like handpainted art, anything?

Hair....I chose not to do the 6 weeks of nails. They are in the first 3 weeks in the freshmen level. Got 2 weeks to go!
