Hi all,

(This is a Question for the experienced Nail Techs/Seasoned Techs that have been doing Acrylics for some time):

I'll be honest...I LOVE Natural Nails and that is where I want to "start" here in L.A. when I Graduate next Spring..there are several "Natural Nail"/Mani-Pedi Spas that offer *only* Natural Nail Services, and I figured, ok, since I have my Polishing Techniques down for the most part (except for that pesky Freehand French Tip, lol), and all of my Clients in Student Salon LOVE my Manis, it would be a very safe Bet to start there and work my way up.

But in secret, outside of Class and Salon, I REALLY want to master first Acrylics, then Gels.

My fellow Tech friends in School with me staunchly insist that they will be able to START doing Acrylics "Straight Out The Gate", meaning, School, with Ease and With No Problems.

Friends..I cry B.S., I really do!!

I have been doing Acrylics at home, in my free time (all Forms, no Tip Overlays) and YES, I love it, and YES, although it takes me a bit of time to do them, they look pretty darned good. I don't dehydrate or prime the nails that I sculpt on, however, because I need to be able to get back to class/work w/o having a sculpted nail hanging off one finger that I'm walking around with for days..but at Christmas I AM going to properly prepare and Tip my nails to "see" if there will be any lifting/cracking because I feel like my Technique is strong enough for me to do that now..and plus, I need to be able to do a Fill.

So, what should I do?

Expect to not pass "Go" straight out of School like my friends, and throw myself enthusiastically into Acrylics at whatever Salon may hire me for them, or should I think my friends are crazy for their over-enthusiasm and general lack of preparation?

I had honestly Planned to go ahead and take Continuing Ed for Acrylics and Gels..and THEN go ahead and start doing them at a Salon..because I want to be just that good and just that prepared...

Thoughts?

Advice?

:)

Welcome to the forum! Keep practicing acrylics. To be honest with you it really takes about a good year to really get a system down. That is if you have stuck to just one system and was not bouncing around. Try to stay with just sculpting. That is what you have to do at state board for your acrylic application. Continuing Ed is good even if you are still in school. I personally have taking students with me to my continuing ed classes.

Thanks for the sound advice; it just astounds me that these other ladies think that they'll be up and running in Acrylics ASAP with a full Book like that!
